Grub: Budapest

Hangry? We've got you covered.

Karavan

Karavan should be your first option for late-night eats in Budapest, no-brainer. With a wide variety of delicious Hungarian street food, it’d be a crime to go anywhere else. It’s located near the city’s best hostels and nightlife, so swing by this memorable hotspot whenever the hanger hits. (Sunday-Wednesday: Open ‘til Midnight; Thursday-Saturday: Open ‘til 2am)

Retro Langos

You simply cannot experience Budapest without enjoying the city’s most beloved junk food, Lángos. What is Lángos, you ask? A tasty masterpiece composed of fried dough and the essential toppings: garlic butter, sour cream, and shredded cheese. Late at night, your best bet is Retro Langos, one of the best places in the city to try this signature treat. (Open ‘til 6am every day except Sunday)

Paneer

Known for its amazing fried cheese, Paneer offers its famous “real cheese burger”, featuring fried cheese instead of your standard patty. If you’re not into that idea (you should be), there are several other fried cheese-based menu options at Paneer. Legendary among street food in Budapest, you can’t go wrong with a late-night pit stop at this centrally-located food truck. (Sunday-Wednesday: open ‘til 11pm; Thursday: open ‘til 1am

Csirkecsibesz

Delicious, cheap, and filling fried chicken sandwiches are the move at Csirkecsibesz. If you’re staying at Retox Party Hostel, there is no better late-night food option as its practically next door. (Open ‘til 5am on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday; Open ‘til midnight on Friday; closes early rest of week)

El Rapido

If you’re craving cheap mexican food, El Rapido is your answer. You get what you pay for, but this is your best option if you simply need to put down a burrito at 3am. (Monday-Thursday: Open ‘til 4am; Friday-Saturday: Open ‘til 5am; Sunday: Open ‘til 3am)

Hot Dog Cold Beer

The name speaks for itself. Great hot dogs and you guessed it, cold beer. What’s special about this place is the “sweet dog,” a fried candy bar covered in powdered sugar. I don’t cover hospitals in this guide, but you may want to know where the nearest one is before hitting up HDCB. Hot Dog Cold Beer is the place to go if you’re leaving Otkert for the night - they’re about one block away from each other. (Monday-Thursday: Open ‘til 3am; Friday-Saturday: Open ‘til 6am; Sunday: Open ‘til midnight)
